Ashoka

Saraca asoca

A classical women's herb used for monthly-cycle support, almost always alongside lodhra and shatavari.

Also known as: अशोक

Traditional use

The bark is used in classical stri-roga formulations, particularly those concerning the menstrual cycle. Appears in well-known classical preparations for women's health.

Why brands use it

A formulation ingredient rather than a consumer product. Its value is the classical lineage it brings to a women's formulation, the ashoka–lodhra–shatavari trio is immediately recognisable to practitioners and to older customers.

Quality and specification

Bark material from a species under conservation pressure, so documented sourcing matters. Adulteration with Polyalthia longifolia bark is well documented.

Safety and cautions

Generally well tolerated in formulation. Practitioner advice is sensible in pregnancy.

Questions we actually get

Before you ask us

Can we claim it regulates periods?

Be careful. Cycle support and traditional use are defensible; a claim to regulate or restore menstruation strays into medicinal territory.

Tell us the format and the volume. We will come back with a specification, a per-unit cost and a realistic first-batch date.
