Bhumyamalaki

Phyllanthus niruri

The backbone of most Ayurvedic liver formulations, and the herb a liver product is usually built around.

Also known as: Bhui amla, भूम्यामलकी

Traditional use

Whole plant used in classical hepatic formulations. One of the most consistently used liver herbs in the Ayurvedic tradition.

Why brands use it

The anchor ingredient of a liver product. Liver care is the most searched organ-support category in Indian supplement retail, so a formulation led by this herb is addressing established demand rather than creating it.

Quality and specification

Whole plant. Several Phyllanthus species are used interchangeably in commerce, so botanical identity matters.

Safety and cautions

Generally well tolerated. Practitioner advice for anyone with liver disease or on hepatotoxic medication.
