Daruharidra

Berberis aristata

A berberine-bearing classical herb used in metabolic, skin and piles formulations.

Also known as: Indian barberry, दारुहरिद्रा

Traditional use

Stem and root bark used in classical formulations for skin complaints, eye washes and digestive conditions. Berberine is the principal constituent of interest.

Why brands use it

A useful formulation ingredient across PCOS, piles and skin products. Berberine itself has growing international search demand, which gives a daruharidra-containing product a bridge to that audience.

Quality and specification

Berberine content is the usual standardisation marker where specified.

Safety and cautions

Berberine-bearing herbs can interact with several medicines, including metformin and some antibiotics. Not advised in pregnancy. Practitioner advice is sensible.

Questions we actually get

Before you ask us

Should we market the berberine angle?

It can bring in an informed audience, but be careful, berberine content varies and metabolic claims are tightly constrained. State the herb and the standardisation rather than implying pharmacology.

Your idea, made tangible

Formulating with Daruharidra?

Tell us the format and the volume. We will come back with a specification, a per-unit cost and a realistic first-batch date.
