Traditional use
Known as mandukaparni in Ayurveda and used for skin, wound healing and mental clarity. Confusingly, it is also called brahmi in some regions, though it is a different plant from Bacopa monnieri.
Why brands use it
Bridges traditional and modern skincare neatly: centella is a recognised cosmetic active internationally while mandukaparni carries classical credibility in India. Also used in vein and circulation products, which is a small but almost unserved category here.
Quality and specification
Whole plant. Asiaticoside content is the usual standardisation marker. Always state the botanical name to avoid the brahmi confusion.
Safety and cautions
Well tolerated topically and orally in formulation. Not advised in pregnancy. Patch testing is sensible for topicals.
