Pashanbhed

Bergenia ligulata

The herb Indian families name for kidney stones, the name itself means "stone breaker".

Also known as: Pakhanbhed, पाषाणभेद

Traditional use

Used in classical formulations for urinary stones and urinary discomfort. The rhizome is the part used.

Why brands use it

Highly recognisable to the Indian customer, usually from family advice rather than marketing. Its presence on a kidney product label positions the product without any claim being made.

Quality and specification

Rhizome material. Substitution with other species sold under the same common name is common, so botanical identity testing matters.

Safety and cautions

Generally well tolerated. Anyone with diagnosed kidney disease must consult a physician first.

Questions we actually get

Before you ask us

Can we claim it dissolves stones?

No. That is a medicinal claim. Urinary comfort and hydration support are the available positions, and for this highly motivated audience they are enough.

Your idea, made tangible

Formulating with Pashanbhed?

Tell us the format and the volume. We will come back with a specification, a per-unit cost and a realistic first-batch date.
