Seasonal demand calendar

Month by month: which categories peak when, and when stock has to be landed to catch each wave.

A selection of finished NutraHerbal products

Several categories in this industry have short, sharp seasons, and the single most common commercial mistake we see is ordering inside the window rather than ahead of it. A brand that sells its joint stock in February at a discount is worse off than one that waited and launched properly the following October. Here is the calendar we plan against.

January to March

January is the largest weight-management month of the year, driven by new-year resolutions, and it runs into the wedding season. Stock must be landed by late November, a January order is selling into February and missing most of it. Detox and cleanse products peak alongside it.

February and March bring exam-season demand for memory and focus products, which is completely predictable to the week. March is also when summer products need to be on shelves: electrolytes, cooling oils and aloe gel all start moving as temperatures climb.

April to June

The summer peak. Electrolyte sachets become one of the highest-velocity products in Indian retail during a heatwave. Cooling hair oils, aloe vera gel and after-sun products all run hard. Kidney and stone products climb as dehydration increases, concentrated in North and West India, stock should be landed by early March.

This is also the quietest period for joint care and respiratory products, which is the right time to plan and order for their autumn season rather than to discount.

July to September

The monsoon. Electrolyte and cooling demand collapses within a fortnight of the rains arriving, which catches brands that overstocked. Immunity and giloy products climb as seasonal illness rises. Dandruff and skin products lift with humidity. Hair-fall products see a post-monsoon lift as seasonal shedding becomes noticeable.

September is the critical ordering month for the autumn and winter season. Respiratory stock must be ordered now to land by early October, and joint-care stock likewise.

October to December

The busiest quarter. Respiratory and air-quality products climb steeply from late October in Delhi NCR and the northern plains and stay high through February. Joint care rises with falling temperatures. Winter skincare, body lotion and foot-care creams need to be landed by mid-October.

Diwali brings a sharp, short spike in digestive products and in gifting, premium juices and gift sets move in volume with little selling effort if the packaging is right. The post-festival weeks are then the strongest period of the year for detox and cleanse products, running into the January peak.

The categories with no seasonality

Metabolic and sugar, thyroid wellness, PCOS, fertility, piles, prostate, men's wellness and daily multivitamins are all effectively unseasonal. Demand follows diagnosis, family history and life stage rather than weather.

For a brand that wants predictable production planning and steady cash flow, these are the better categories to build on. The seasonal categories offer bigger peaks but punish mistimed ordering severely.

Questions we actually get

Before you ask us

What if we have already missed a season?

Plan for the next one rather than launching into the tail. We will tell you when a window has closed rather than take the order, selling at a discount into a falling market damages a new brand.

When should content be published relative to stock?

Four to six weeks before the peak, so it is already ranking when demand arrives. Most brands publish during the peak, which is too late.

Which season is the biggest overall?

October to January, by a clear margin, respiratory, joint, festive digestive, gifting, detox and then the January weight peak all fall inside it.
