Safed Musli

Chlorophytum borivilianum

A classical vajikarana herb used in men's vitality formulations, and a significant cost driver in them.

Also known as: White musli, सफेद मूसली

Traditional use

Used in classical vajikarana (vitality) formulations, usually alongside ashwagandha, kaunch beej and shilajit. The tuberous root is the part used.

Why brands use it

Almost entirely a formulation ingredient for men's wellness products. It has little independent search demand but contributes meaningfully to the classical credibility of a men's formulation.

Quality and specification

Cultivated root. Saponin content is the usual marker where standardisation is specified. Expensive relative to other herbs in the stack.

Safety and cautions

Generally well tolerated. Limited data in pregnancy; not intended for use by women or children in these formulations.

Questions we actually get

Before you ask us

Can we leave it out to reduce cost?

You can, and the product will still function commercially. It does weaken the classical vajikarana story, which matters to some audiences more than others.

Your idea, made tangible

Formulating with Safed Musli?

Tell us the format and the volume. We will come back with a specification, a per-unit cost and a realistic first-batch date.
