Shallaki

Boswellia serrata

The most recognised joint herb in Ayurveda, and the one international buyers know as boswellia.

Also known as: Salai guggul, Indian frankincense, शल्लकी

Traditional use

Gum resin used in classical formulations for joint comfort and mobility. One of the principal herbs in Ayurvedic joint care.

Why brands use it

Joint care is one of the two largest supplement categories in India by value, with a pronounced winter peak in the northern states. Customers who research joint supplements search boswellia and shallaki by name, which makes a single-herb capsule a genuine traffic product alongside a formulation.

Quality and specification

Boswellic acid content varies enormously in commercial extracts; 65% is a solid commercial grade. AKBA-enriched fractions cost considerably more. Stating the percentage is checkable and most competitors avoid it.

Safety and cautions

Generally well tolerated; some report mild stomach upset on an empty stomach, so taking it with food is the sensible label instruction.

Questions we actually get

Before you ask us

Shallaki or glucosamine?

Different mechanisms and different audiences. A hybrid formulation reaches the customer who trusts Ayurveda and the one who reads international supplement content, without splitting the SKU.

Your idea, made tangible

Formulating with Shallaki?

Tell us the format and the volume. We will come back with a specification, a per-unit cost and a realistic first-batch date.
