Guggul

Commiphora wightii

A classical resin used across lipid, joint and thyroid formulations, and the base of many classical guggulu preparations.

Also known as: Guggulu, Indian bdellium, गुग्गुल

Traditional use

Oleo-gum resin used in a large number of classical formulations, kanchnar guggulu, yograj guggulu and others, for joints, lipids and glandular complaints.

Why brands use it

Versatile across heart, joint and thyroid products. The classical guggulu preparations also carry recognition with practitioners in a way a plain extract does not.

Quality and specification

A species under significant conservation pressure in India, so documented sourcing matters. Guggulsterone content is the usual marker.

Safety and cautions

Generally well tolerated. Not advised in pregnancy. May interact with thyroid medication and anticoagulants; practitioner advice is sensible.

Questions we actually get

Before you ask us

Can we claim cholesterol benefits?

No. Traditional use in general wellness terms, yes. A cholesterol-reduction claim is medicinal and will not be manufactured against.

Your idea, made tangible

Formulating with Guggul?

Tell us the format and the volume. We will come back with a specification, a per-unit cost and a realistic first-batch date.
